LABORATORY TEST FOR CEMENT

(1) Chemical Composition Test
  • Ratio of percentage of line to percentage of silica, alumina & iron oxide non as lime saturation

factor, when calculated by the formula = CaO-0.7SO3/(28SiO2+1.2Al2O3+0.65Fe2O3 shall
not be greater than 1.02 & not less than 0.66.

  • Ratio of percentage of alumina (Al2O3) to that of iron oxide (Fe2O3) shall not be less than 0.66.
  • Weight of Insoluble residue shall not be more than 1.5 per cent.
  • Weight of magnesia shall not be more than 5%.
  • Total loss ignition shall not be more than 4%.
(2) Normal Consistency Test

  • The normal consistency (P) of a cement pest is define as that consistency which will permit Vicat plunger having 10mm dia meter & 50mm length to penetrate a depth of 32mm from the top (or 5mm to 7mm from the bottom) of the mold.
  • Temperature 27+or- 2 degree C, humidity 90%.
(3) Initial Setting Time Test

  • Initial setting time should not be less than 30minuts for OPC & 60minuts low heat cement
(4) Final Setting Time Test

  • The final setting time should not be more than 10 hours
  • Test performed at 0.85p consistency.
(5) Soundness Test

  • Le Chatelier's Method
  • Autoclave Test.
(6) Strength Test

  • Compressive Strength Test
  • Tensile Strength Test
